Shinkansen gates and local train transfers
Follow the Tokaido Shinkansen signs and station displays toward the Shinkansen entrance or transfer gates. Use the North or South transfer gate as appropriate for your arrival route. Check your train number, departure time, platform and car before going to the platform. For the layout, use JR Central's station maps and select Shinagawa.
When transferring from a local JR train or Keikyu service, follow the ticket instructions for each part of your journey. Leave time for walking, lifts, queues and any ticket collection. There is no single transfer time that fits every platform, ticket type or accessibility need; ask station staff if you are unsure which gate to use.
Connecting from Haneda Airport
Keikyu connects Haneda Airport with Shinagawa. Use the official Haneda Airport Access Guide to check the terminal, service, fare and any required transfer. Allow for immigration, baggage collection and disruption before choosing an onward Shinkansen departure. Check current operator service information before leaving the airport.
Kyoto, Shin-Osaka and other destinations
Nozomi, Hikari and Kodama have different stopping patterns on the Tokaido Shinkansen. Kyoto, Shin-Osaka and Nagoya are common destinations; some services continue onto the Sanyo Shinkansen. Confirm that your selected train serves your destination and whether a change is needed.

The JR Central timetable is a basic timetable; extra trains may run on selected dates. Prices depend on the service, travel date, seat class and ticket conditions. Confirm the final fare and departure in your booking rather than relying on a fixed article price.
Seats, luggage and boarding
Check the oversized-baggage guide and official luggage rules. Baggage with combined dimensions greater than 160 cm and up to 250 cm requires an appropriate oversized-baggage seat reservation. Do not assume any rear seat or an unreserved ticket includes that space.
